How Environment Effects Consumer Behavior
week 3
The environment the consumer is exposed to can determine the purchases the consumer makes and how much money they spend. The music, lighting, decor, and crowding of stores play into how the consumer feels about the environment. The pressure of time and the money on hand can also effect consumer behavior. A less stressful environment might invite more people to spend more time shopping, therefore leading to larger purchases. The layout of the store, and the people the consumer is shopping with can effect their behavior. For example adults with children are more likely to spend more money then adults alone. Through years of marketing research, store have perfected how to predict consumer behavior.
Here are two brilliant marketing strategy company's use to get consumers to spend more money:
Store Layout:
Have you ever walked into the same store two weeks later to notice that the layout is completely different? company do this on purpose to confuse consumers into noticing new products. At all T.j. Maxx retail stores they purposefully enclose the checkout line with products to promote impulsive buys from consumers. Unfortunately this strategy very much works for me as i always pick up one or two more products while waiting in line.
