Same Products, Different Packaging


Notice how when you shopping at the grocery store all of the adult cereal packaging is boring and very minimum. Usually the adult cereal has a picture of the cereal, description on the healthy benefits, and maybe some little animations. While looking at the kids cereal you see bright colors with bright fun animations and characters with slogans such as "berry blast" or "chocolate goodness." When marketing cereal company tend to add more bright color and friendly characters on their box, kids cereal is also strategically placed below at eye level  so that kids are more likely to pick them up. This is the same with cereal marketed towards adults, the cereal placed at a higher level so they are easy to access and read. This marketing technique is not just unique to cereal company's, this can be found across a broad range of company specializing in different industry.  
look below at the difference in packaging between kid and adult hair care products. 

Hair care: Adult vs. Kids 

Kids: 

Like cereal when marketing for kids in hair care products, company's will use kid like animations such as castle (see image below) and bright colors such as orange (see image below).  With hair care products their is usually a small picture of kids to allow people to know this is for kids.          

 

Adults: 

When marketing for hair care, especially towards women, the packaging is usually very boring with calm beige colors and the name with a list of benefits on the back. there is generally no animations, or fun characters other than a small signature brand picture such as dove on the brand dove.
